What is Weight Loss Injections Ireland?
Weight Loss Injections Ireland is a doctor-led, digital weight management service that offers online consultations with Irish-registered doctors. We specialise in prescribing weight loss treatments for eligible patients across Ireland. Our service includes a private online medical consultation, review by an Irish-registered doctor, prescriptions issued if clinically appropriate, cross-border prescription fulfilment (you can use any pharmacy in either the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland), and ongoing medical support.
What are GLP-1 medications and how do they work?
GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only injectable treatments that act on hormonal pathways involved in appetite regulation and blood sugar control. They are based on the action of a naturally occurring hormone called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). Some medicines in this category also act on an additional hormone, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP), sometimes referred to as dual-acting therapies. GLP-1-based medicines work by regulating appetite signals, slowing the rate at which the stomach empties, and affecting blood glucose regulation. Prescription treatments are not suitable for everyone and are issued only where clinically appropriate.
How much weight can I lose with GLP-1 treatment?
GLP-1-based medicines have been studied in clinical trials. Findings show that responses vary between individuals; outcomes depend on medical history, baseline health, and adherence to clinical guidance. In clinical trials, GLP-1 therapies have shown an average weight loss of up to 15% of body weight over 12 to 16 months, while dual-action GLP-1/GIP therapies have shown up to 22% average weight loss over similar periods. These treatments are intended to be used in conjunction with a balanced diet, regular exercise, and medical guidance.
Who is eligible for GLP-1 weight loss injections?
You may be eligible if you have a BMI of 30 or higher, or 27 or higher with health conditions such as high blood pressure, PCOS, or prediabetes; you are not pregnant or breastfeeding; you are not currently on conflicting medications; and you are committed to a supervised weight loss plan. Our doctors will review your medical history and decide if treatment is appropriate.
What makes your service different from other providers?
We are the only online provider in Ireland that offers prescriptions that are valid in both the Republic and Northern Ireland. This means faster access, more pharmacy options, and full regulatory compliance.
Do I need to collect my medication in person?
You have several options. You can collect your prescription at any pharmacy in the Republic of Ireland, choose a Northern Irish pharmacy to fulfil your script, or opt for home delivery from a regulated pharmacy in the Republic of Ireland or Northern Ireland. Our prescriptions are designed to meet the regulatory standards of both jurisdictions.
How much does it cost?
The consultation fee is €50 for your first online consultation, which is refunded if you are not eligible. The cost of the medication varies depending on the treatment and pharmacy you choose. There are no subscription fees or hidden charges. We are committed to offering Ireland's best-value, dedicated doctor-prescribed weight loss care.
How does the online consultation work?
Complete our secure medical questionnaire online (takes approximately 3 minutes). An Irish doctor will review your details within a few hours. If suitable, the pharmacy of your choice will receive your prescription. If you are not eligible, we will refund your consultation fee in full.
Are GLP-1 injections safe?
GLP-1 medications are approved for weight management and have undergone extensive clinical trials. Like all prescription medicines, they come with potential side effects, including nausea, constipation or diarrhoea, reduced appetite, and fatigue. Your prescriber will discuss these with you during your consultation.
How do I take the medication?
GLP-1 medications are delivered via a small, pre-filled injection pen. You will inject it once per week into the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. You will start at a low dose and titrate up slowly under medical supervision to minimise side effects and optimise results.
Do I have to change my diet or exercise?
GLP-1 injections work best when paired with healthier eating habits, increased physical activity, and consistent routines. We will support you with advice and dose adjustments as needed. This is not a quick fix. It is a medical pathway to long-term change.
Can I stop treatment anytime?
Yes. There is no contract or obligation to continue. However, stopping treatment may lead to weight regain over time. We recommend discussing any changes with your doctor to manage expectations and ensure continuity of care.
What happens if I miss a dose?
If you are fewer than 4 days late, take it when remembered and then resume your normal schedule. If you are more than 4 days late, skip it and continue as planned. Do not double-dose under any circumstances.
Will I regain weight after stopping?
Possibly. GLP-1 therapies support weight maintenance, not permanence. Continued diet, exercise, and medical follow-up are key to long-term success.
Can I use this service if I have diabetes?
We do not prescribe to patients already diagnosed with diabetes. Additional medical oversight is required for such cases. Please consult your GP.
Is the service covered by the HSE medical card?
No, this is a private, online-only service. Currently, prescriptions are not covered by medical cards.
Do you supply or deliver the medication?
Weight Loss Injections Ireland is not a pharmacy and does not supply, dispense, or deliver any medication. Our role is to conduct a private online consultation with an Irish-registered doctor, issue a digital prescription if you are clinically eligible, and send that prescription to your chosen pharmacy (in the Republic or Northern Ireland). From there, your selected pharmacy is solely responsible for dispensing the medication and arranging any delivery. This ensures compliance with both Irish and Northern Irish regulations.
